Mycotoxin Testing

Some food supplements have been found to contain toxins at a concentration above 1,850x permitted or advised tolerance levels

Toxins such as mycotoxins, dioxins, and Pyrrolizidine alkaloids can be severely toxic to humans and are not something you want to be inadvertently consuming as part of a supplement regime to improve your health.

The FDA state that the human food tolerance level for aflatoxin (the most damaging type of mycotoxin) is 20mcg/kg, but a 2015 study* found some food supplements to contain up to 37,000mcg/kg – 1,850x the FDA tolerance level! So the potential health risk level can be high.

*Mycotoxins in Plant-Based dietary supplements: Hidden health risk for consumers (note: the supplement type that was found to contain 1,850x the tolerance level was a Milk Thistle supplement)

This is why we offer toxin testing services for your food supplements – helping to identify if any of these toxins are present, and if so, at what level.

We use a combination of Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectometry to identify and quantify the presence of these various toxins, and offer specific testing for each toxin type should you wish to focus on a particular group of toxins that you think your supplement may be at particular risk of.

For more information on our supplement toxin testing methodology and scope, please download our specification sheets in the sidebar to the left of this screen.

Here’s a small sample of the type of toxins that our tests look for and quantify:

  • Mycotoxins
  • Aflatoxins
  • Ochratoxin A
  • Patulin
  • Fumonisins
  • Zearalenone
  • Pyrrolizidine alkaloids
  • Dioxins (PCDDs, PCDFs and PCBs)
ACCREDITED TESTING

Our lab holds Chemical Testing accreditation from A2LA in accordance with the recognized International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for most toxins that we offer testing for.

Here’s some other reasons why we’re the leading lab for supplement testing for both consumers and supplement brands/manufacturers:

With decades of collective experience in chemical and biological testing, our highly experienced team are perfectly placed to ensure a seemless, trouble-free testing process.

We use a state-of-the-art LIMs system for intercepting, recording, and delivering results to our customers in a secure, ultra-reliable way.

Depending on the toxin group being tested, prices can vary – but they start from around just £481 (inc VAT) for comprehensive toxin-group reporting. Click the Order button below to build your order and to see specific toxin-group pricing.
